Also known by the brand name Propecia, finasteride belongs to a class of drugs known as 5-alpha-reductase inhibitors. It works by preventing testosterone from breaking down into dihydrotestosterone (DHT), the hormone that causes male pattern baldness.

Proscare is a 5mg dosage of finasteride which is generally prescribed for Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia (BPH).

You can split Proscare into quarters to be used to treat hairloss, making it a cheaper way to take finasteride for hair loss.
